Students from four SEG Student Chapters gained valuable leadership skills by hosting International Geosciences Student Conferences (IGSC) in four regions around the world this summer. Hundreds of people attended these student-led events to share research and to network with other students and sponsors. In addition to technical programs with oral and poster presentations from students, each conference hosted distinguished professionals whose presentations challenged students with current issues and research in the geosciences. Each conference was held over three days and included a Challenge Bowl competition and field trips in addition to the technical program. All details, including budgeting, marketing, securing sponsorships, inviting guest lecturers, and planning social events, were carried out by students. Significant funding for IGSCs is provided by Platinum Sponsor Statoil.
