Many people in our industry have a fair understanding of what is involved with hydraulic fracturing, which has been around since the late 1940s. I have yet to venture into a discussion of that process. I, like others, have followed the technical underpinnings of monitoring “frack jobs” and the attempts to predict “sweet spots” or to predict rock properties that could have an adverse effect on production success or failure. But the subject is heating up and in some cases has caused local governments to ban all hydraulic-fracturing methods. New York is an example. This has clearly entered the political arena, and I purposely steer away from political subjects even though they may have a profound effect on the industry in which I have spent several decades (six plus).
