mentation, it does serve to poimit up the often ignored possibilities for objective examimuation amid evaluation of complex structures. This book should he particularly useful to studemits or investigators facimig problems of this nature for the first time, since the scope of the individual papers covers most of the consideratiomus amid operations that will be required in attemptimig such analyses. The symposium is divided imuto six major seetions. The first section deals chiefly with theoretical considerations imi imitroducing the subject. The second deals with deviatiomis of size distribution in the analysis of sections. The third section takes tip counting methods, the fourth is concermied with the measurememut of structures in space with random probes, while the fifth is concermied with instrunientat ion. The fimial chapter approaches the correlation of data obtained by stereologic methods with structure amid fumiction. In the course of these general discussiomis data collected on several types of tissues or organs are presented: kidney, adipose tissue, brain, imutracellular organelles, bone and lumig. It would appear that this symposium volume can fimid a useful place in the library of the histochemist, even if it serves chiefly to remind him of the complexity of the material with which he is dealimig.
