Calcification of different organs in the rat, induced by challenge with various iron compounds after sensitization with dihydrotachysterol, was studied histochemically. Iron is demonstrable in the target organs before calcification but apparently, in the described experimental conditions, it can attract calcium only when it is extracellular. The possible relationship between ferrification and calcium deposition is briefly discussed.
