In 29 participating centers from France, USA, Canada, Greece, and the UK, 317 patients on CAPD for one to 66 months underwent ultrafiltration (UF) measurements with a hypertonic (3.86 4.25 gm% dextrose), 2L, 4 hour dwell exchange. Mean values of UF and dialysate glucose were higher and glucose absorption lower in patients using Brand A as compared to other brands. Rapid glucose absorption and low UF could not be explained simply by the use of acetate as the buffer anion since two of four other than Brand A contained lactate.
