Breast Cancer: Psycho-Social Aspects of Early Detection and Treatment PC Brand & P A van Keep (ed) pp 114 £4.95 Lancaster: MTP Press Ltd 1978 It is surprising that in the extensive literature on the management of breast cancer so little attention has been given to the psychosocial problems of the patient and also to the effect of propaganda directed to the early detection and diagnosis of this disease. It is sad that so few patients, who have been treated by mastectomy, are given any moral support and that even the simple matter of having a prosthesis fitted is often left entirely to the patient's own initiative. This account ofthe Workshop Meeting from the International Health Foundation will form an excellent basis both for reference and hopefully for further similar reports.
