The reported performances of the UK and German measurement industries are compared. It seems that during the past 30 years, the German measurement industry has grown and has been more innovative and commercially successful in the field of measurement instrumentation and sensors. Examples of measurement innovation from around the world and in various application sectors are cited to illustrate the strongly growing new global markets for novel measurement systems. There is a serious lack of measurement skills in the United Kingdom.
