Integrating central and peripheral information during object categorization

The integration of visual information across saccades when processing a complex scene is affected by many factors. A large amount of high resolution information at the center of fixation is sequentially added to the stored results of recent fixat ions. In addition, contextual knowledge of the coherent image as well as peripheral visual information influences this process. We began to investigate this integration of visual information by reducing the complexity of the task in three ways. First, we eliminated contextual information by showing random pairs of object images. Second, we restricted eye movements with short presentation times. Third, we restricted the access to peripheral information away from fixation by sequential presentation of information.
