Effects of Progressive and Non-Progressive Threads of an Immediate Loading Dental Implant

Immediate loading of dental implants are always a cause of concern in implant dentistry with no consensus regarding the prerequisites to achieve optimum results. The purpose of the present simulation study was to assess the stress/strain distribution at the surrounding marginal bone of an immediately loaded implant with two different thread designs—progressive and non-progressive threads. A three dimensional finite element model of an adult mandible was developed from computed tomography scan images, and a static vertical load of 100 N was applied to the implant. The min/max von Mises stresses and strains of cancellous bone surrounding the implants were analysed. The results showed that the implant designed with progressive thread had uniform distribution and well dissipated stress/ strain for the bone
