The article highlights the notion of the inner form of a word and its role in the processes of semantic derivation on the basis of action verbs in German. The inner form of a word as a primary image serves for comprehension and representation of new information on the one hand and as one that can be ignored on the other. This makes it possible for a sign to meet communicative needs on a larger scale.
