The meaning and perception of soul in the culture of the Podhale region The paper discusses issues related to funerary rites in the culture of the Podhale region and the concept of soul, as laid out in the highlander dialect by Rev. Jozef Tischner, a concept which is closely connected with Podhale culturemes, e.g. music, as well as with mythological themes. The highlanders’ belief about their own uniqueness is reflected in their perception of soul travel, in which soul is endowed with typically highlander properties and heads towards God through the mountains and valleys of Podhale.
