“A Room in the Room” is a temporary site-specific installation in which I construct a room inside of my private room, located in 352 Marlborough Street in Boston. The inner room, accessible by the second door of my room, forms an enclosure made out of transparent glass walls, which follows the contours of my room’s interior surfaces. Visitors enter the inner room to share my visual and sound experiences, but not physically to cross the transparent walls. Through my experience in which I live between two walls, I situate our transparent boundaries in domestic with a tangible form to reveal the public strangeness in our social landscape. As a metaphor of physically constructed psycho-social boundaries, the project cites both social and existential instrumentation that apply to contemporary artistic and architectural interventions.
