• In the United States, 295,995 women died from heart disease in 2016.1 Heart disease is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States. The most common form of heart disease in the United States is coronary heart disease, which can lead to heart attack.2 • Heart disease is South Carolina’s 2nd leading cause of death for African American women. In 2017,1,216 African American women died from heart disease in South Carolina.
