There is now abundant evidence demonstrating that the kidney is a major target organ for both hypertension and lipid-induced injury. In addition, the kidney may have an important role in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension, and it is possible that lipid-induced renal alterations could contribute to the development and maintenance of elevated blood pressure
