An RSR′ complex was present in lead V1 in the electrocardiograms of 44 of 870 normal people from birth to 30 years of age; an overall incidence of 5 per cent. Analysis of the RSR′ from these 44 patients demonstrated the importance of considering age when interpreting the RSR′ complex. Criteria for distinguishing normal and abnormal RSR′ complexes for various age groups was suggested. These criteria were 85 per cent successful in distinguishing the RSR′ complex in patients with congenital heart disease from the RSR′ complex in normal subjects.
