Activation of protein kinase C-linked receptors and subsequent opening of the mitochondrial ATP-sensitive K(+) (mitoK(ATP)) channel are crucial in preconditioning (PC). This study examined whether postinfarct ventricular remodeling interferes with the PC mechanism.
