Carlos S. Kase, MD (Boston, Mass.) Jay P. Mohr, MD (New York, N.Y.) Joan Martí-Fàbregas, MD (Barcelona) It is with great sadness that we share with the neurological community the news of the death of our colleague and friend José Luis Martí Vilalta during September 2014. Although José Luis was by nature reserved and private, and avoided acts of public recognition, we wanted to honor his memory through this brief expression of our admiration and respect for him as a person, physician, and friend. Throughout our interactions with him, either in his beloved Barcelona or elsewhere, we came to realize that his love and passion for neurology were both deep and genuine. This translated into a remarkable academic productivity, with over 150 original papers, numerous chapters in major texts, and important books such as ‘Enfermedades Vasculares Cerebrales’, a third edition of which he completed in 2012. His passion for academic neurology was only paralleled by his love for artistic expression, which he proudly displayed in his home and also disseminated through several magnificent books, thus bridging the worlds of art and neurology. He often referred to his good fortune of being in a profession that excited him every day, and that attitude continued unchanged until he became ill. José Luis approached his illness with characteristic privacy, courage, and dignity, supported as always by his beloved wife Pilar. We have Published online: July 11, 2015
