A standardized set of definitions was needed in the field of medically assisted reproduction (MAR) to standardize and harmonize international data acquisition and to monitor the availability, efficacy, and safety of assisted reproductive technology (ART) worldwide. In order to provide accurate national data, the use of a terminology list which was composed and negotiated by the International Committee for Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology (ICMART) is essential, and a translation into Dutch was crucial for its implementation in Belgium and the Netherlands.
