Author’s address: Dr. N. M. J. Schweitzer, Kon. Ned. Gasthuis voor Ooglijders, Dondersstraat, Utrecht (The Netherlands) (Published in extenso in the AMA Archives of Ophthalmology, Chicago 77: 548, 1967.) Discussion Mulock Houwer observes that, if the clear lines are the result of reflection of the parallel beams of light from a cylinder-shaped groove, focal lines will arise which cannot all be reproduced sharply if the curvature of the cylinder surface alters. Dekking: The parallel lines alongside the image of the groove suggest interference lines, caused by the sloping wall of the groove. In that case, if one knows the wave-length, one can read the depth of the groove and the inclination of the walls from the photograph. Manschot asks how deep the grooves are estimated to be. Schweitzer replies: 10–20 μm.
