Authors’ address: Dr. E. H. Huizing and Dr. J. Beekmans, E.N.T. Dept. of the University, Leyden (Netherlands) The question arises as to why a septal deviation should be corrected by means of a resection of the cartilaginous and bony septum. It appears that sometimes septum correction can also be achieved by reposition of the deviated septum. The authors discuss their experiences with such a conservative septum surgery. They describe the surgical approach used by them, which is based on the technique of Cottle c.s. (1958), and the principles they developed in order to achieve reposition of the septum. They consider it to be an advantage of this type of surgery that 1. it is also possible in children; 2. it decreases the chance of secondary deformity; 3. malformation of the nose as a result of septal deflections can be corrected with the same procedure; 4. it gives less chance of septal perforations. * Will be published more completely in this journal.
