The Surgical Treatment of a Case of Radiated Postcricoid Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Spite of Lung-shadow J. Springorum This case presents a 70 year-old woman, suffering from a recurrence of a postcricoid squamous cell carcinoma one year after irradiation of the larynx with a tumor dose of 6000 roentgen. There is also a small circumscript distant metastasis in the lateral part of the upper lobe of the right lung. A laryngectomy with plastic repair of the involved area of the oesophagus is performed according to Shaw and Ormerod, in spite of a process in the lung, which has been treated by irradiation (4200 r) because the patient refused a thorax operation. One year after treatment patient is still in good condition. The swallowing of most kinds of food is amply sufficient. There is no sign of tumor growth in the cervical region. H. However the lung metastasis has grown to the size of an orange. Operation is still being considered. Lung puncture confirmed the diagnosis: metastasis of the laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
