Deceptive Endoscopic Appearances in Ulcerative Colitis

mal-looking mucosa of ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid colon. These were also reported as ulcerative colitis. Because of the presence of a lesion which appeared grossly malignant endoscopically and confi rmed radiologically, with evidence of microscopic colitis throughout the colon, a total abdominal colectomy was performed. Patient experienced an uneventful postoperative period. Pathological examination of the resected specimen ( fi g. 2 ) confi rmed ulcerative colitis and the lesion in the splenic fl exure which appeared malignant on colonoscopy was reported as a confl uence of infl ammatory polyps.
