A picosecond absorption study on theintermolecular proton transfer of photoexcited8-hydroxy-1,3,6-pyrene trisulfonate (HPTS)is presented. The time of formation of deprotonatedexcited HPTS was measured for varioussolvents. The dependence of this time offormation on the methanol fraction in watermethanolmixtures is discussed in terms of asimple cluster model. Proton transfer rateswere determined in different micellar systemsyielding information on the character of themicellar surrounding of the proton donator.
