The elementary photophysical processes following the absorption of a VUV photon(above 10 eV) by an isolated molecule are described. Special emphasis is made onphotoionization and photodissociation processes, on the basis of recent results obtainedby different experimental methods associated to synchrotron radiation. Discussion ismade within the frame of recent theories. Future trends are also mentioned in connectionwith new synchrotron sources. NaI 222 nmNaI ≠ *→Na*(3 2 P)+I.
