The chemiluminescence of BaO in the range 600-800 nm has been observed for the first time in thereaction between Ba ( 6 s 6 p 1 P 1 ) andCO 2in a crossed beam experiment under single collision conditions. The observed spectrum is attributed to the emission from theA 1 Σ +state of BaO and no emission from the A '1 Π is visible under our experimental conditions. The distribution of lowν 'in theA 1 Σ +state appearsstatistical at low collision energy and, at higher collision energy, theν ' = 1 appears less populated thanstatistically predicted.
