The Electrochemical Society has left a strong, clear trail for 100 years; and the year 2002 was a year to review that trail, rich with success and exemplary science. The centennial meeting held in Philadelphia—the city of our “birth”—was a resounding success, with talks by two Nobel Laureates (Harold Kroto and Rudy Marcus) and a surprise visit from Dr. Benjamin Franklin. The headline in The Philadelphia Inquirer said, “The electrochemists are back,” but by any measure, this hardy group has never left.
