This paper reports on the design, deployment and initial\udevaluation of “Wattsup”, an innovative Facebook\udapplication which displays live data from a commercial\udoff-the-shelf energy monitor. The Wattsup application\udwas deployed and trialled in eight homes over an\udeighteen day period in two conditions - personal energy\uddata viewable and friend’s energy data viewable. A\udsignificant reduction in energy was observed in the\udsocially enabled condition. The paper argues that\udsocially-mediated discussion and competition made for\uda more enjoyable user experience
