We discuss some of the main features emerging from recent studies on multinucleon transfer reactions at energies close to the Coulomb barrier. The possible effects of pair modes are analyzed in inclusive measurements of 58Ni + 208Pb and 40Ca + 208Pb systems. New possibilities offered by using the large solid angle spectrometer PRISMA are outlined
