In (2+1)-dimensional QED with a Chern-Simons term, we study dynamicalbreaking of chiral symmetry, using the Dyson--Schwinger equation for thefermions. There is a region in parameter space were dynamical chiral symmetrybreaking occurs, just as in pure QED3 (without Chern--Simons term); outsidethis region, this chiral symmetry breaking solution does not exists. Ourresults, both numerically and analytically, show that the chiral phasetransition is a discontinuous first-order transition.Comment: 12 pages with 5 figures, LaTeX with ptptex, wrapfig, and epsf; talk given at YKIS '95: From the Standard Model to Grand Unified Theories, August '95, Kyoto, Japan, to appear in the proceeding
