Assuming the quark structure of the photon, the authors consider the hadron production at large transverse momentum p/sub T/ in the process gamma p to hX in the framework of the hard scattering model. Investigation of invariant cross sections and particle ratios near x /sub ///=0 suggests the validity of the model. The model predicts p /sub T//sup -8/ behavior of inclusive cross section as in hadron- hadron collisions and leads to the large charmed hadron production. These predictions will be checked by experimental data expected to be available soon at CERN-SPS and FNAL. (7 refs)
