An asymptotic expression for large angle differential cross sections, do-jdtcx:exp { -2 Xlma(s) ·6}, in a simplified peripheral reaction model is compared with data. The gross behavior of energy and angular dependence of available data (0.50;S;p,;S;lO(GeV/c)) of 1r•p elastic and charge exchange and K•p elastic and p•p elastic scattering is consistent with this expression. From the comparison with pp elastic scattering data, it is pointed out that the non-peripheral contributions from the lower partial waves become important for the large angle differential cross section for p,~10 GeV /c.
