We study lower-dimensional superstrings in the double-spinor formalismintroduced by Aisaka and Kazama. These superstrings can be consistentlyquantized and are equivalent to the lower-dimensional pure-spinor superstringsproposed by Grassi and Wyllard. The unexpected physical spectrum of thepure-spinor superstrings may thus be regarded as a manifestation ofnoncriticality. We also discuss how to couple these covariant superstrings tothe compactified degrees of freedom described by the N=2 superconformal fieldtheory.Comment: 32 pages, version published in Prog. Theor.
