Motivated by the observation of the decay B to K* gamma by the CLEOcollaboration, we have systematically analyzed the weak radiative decayLambda_b to Lambda gamma, evaluating the confined effects of quarks in thecovariant oscillator quark model. This decay process receives both shortdistance (electromagnetic penguins at the one loop level) the long distancecontributions in the quark level. The long distance contributions are analyzedusing the vector meson dominance (VMD) method. The estimated branching ratio isfound to be 0.23 times 10^-5.Comment: 8 pages, uses ptptex.st
