It is demonstrated that the charge Tomonaga-Luttinger parameter $K_\rho$ ofquantum wires can be estimated accurately using the Hartree-Fock approximationif carried out self consistently. The dependence of $K_\rho$ on the carrierdensity distinguishes different regimes of importance of correlations
