The OD band profiles of dilute HDO in liquid [Formula: see text] differ only slightly from those in liquid water, showing that the distribution of hydrogen-bond strengths has the same general form in the two media. Absence of shoulders at frequencies corresponding to the OD stretching frequencies of HDO in ice and in crystalline TMA hydrate points to the absence of structurally well-defined ice-like or clathrate-like regions above the melting point of the crystalline TMA hydrate.
