The ion–molecule reactions in vinyl fluoride have been studied as a function of pressure and electron energy. The C 2 H 2 + and C 2 HF + fragment ions react predominantly by charge transfer while C 2 H 3 + produces C 2 H 4 F + and C 4 H 5 + . The C 2 H 2 F + fragment forms C 2 H 4 F + , CHF 2 + , C 2 H 3 F 2 + , C 4 H 4 F + , and probably C 2 H 3 + . The rate constants for the individual reactions have been measured. The C 2 H 3 F + ion reacts to form C 3 H 5 + , C 3 H 4 F + , C 3 H 3 F 2 + , and C 4 H 5 F + (in minor yield), both by a second order and by a third order reaction. The rate constants and product distributions from the individual reactions have been evaluated. A number of consecutive reactions have been identified and shown to be third order processes.
