Synthesis of the alkaloidal peptides corresponding to structures Ib–Il has been studied. Of several peptide bond forming techniques, the mixed carbonic anhydride and 1-ethyl-3-(3′-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide methods proved generally useful. The potential utility of emetine as a means of transporting N-bis(2-chloroethyl)glycine is discussed.
