We present an example of Berengeru0027s method for a problem with variable coefficients at the interface showing that the method is not perfectly matched. The reflections are revealed by constructing an infinitely accurate geometric optics approximation. They are also revealed in numerical simulations that confirm the dependence on wavelength from the asymptotic expansions.
