Oncogenic Ras upregulates aerobic glycolysis to meet the bioenergetic and biosynthetic demands of rapidly growing cells. In contrast, thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) is a potent inhibitor of glucose uptake and is frequently downregulated in human cancers.
