We developed a simple immunoassay capable of differentially detecting toxin B from highly virulent strains ofClostridium difficile (BI/NAP-1/027) in stool. This assay can simultaneously confirm the presence ofin vivo toxin production and provide strain-related information relevant to infection control epidemiology and disease prognosis.
