Shiga toxin-producingEscherichia coli (STEC) strains from cattle and diarrheic children in a pastoralist community in Uganda were investigated. The STEC strains belonged to a variety of different serogroups, and 70% of the strains were positive for the intimin gene, eae . STEC strains from two of the children were closely related to bovine strains.
