In the presence of nitrate, N2 O emission increased markedly from soybean roots inoculated withnosZ mutant ofBradyrhizobium japonicum , but not from soybean roots inoculated with anapA nosZ double mutant, indicating thatB. japonicum bacteroids in soybean nodules are able to convert the exogenously supplied nitrate into N2 O via a denitrification pathway.
