Studies with14 C-labeled isoleucine stereisomers have established thatl -alloisoleucine,d -alloisoleucine, andd -isoleucine may function as precursors for the biogenesis ofd -isoleucine andN -methyl-l -alloisoleucine residues in actinomycin.l -[14 C]isoleucine appears to be employed chiefly ford -alloisoleucine (andN -methylisoleucine [?] formation); however, its role in the biosynthesis ofd -isoleucine andN -methylalloisoleucine remains unclear. The potential pathway of biosynthesis ofd -isoleucine andN -methyl-l -isoleucine is discussed.
