This study demonstrates for the first time the in vitro transfer of the erythromycin resistance geneerm (B) between two obligate anaerobes, the human spore-forming pathogenClostridium difficile and the rumen commensalButyrivibrio fibrisolvens , suggesting that this event might occur also in the natural environment.
