Many clinical questions in voice production center on vocal efficiency and economy, the ability to sustain phonation over long periods of time without injury. Some traditional and new concepts about vocal efficiency and economy are presented. Potential clinical applications will likely involve computer simulation, the matching of simulated air and tissue movement to signals derived on neck surfaces (EGG) and behind a semi-occlusion of the lips.
