RÉSUMÉ About 190 lightweight joist floors with different joist types, sub-floors, ceiling types, ceiling support systems and type and thickness of sound absorber were constructed and measured at the National Research Council Canada. Three types of sound absorbing material were used and the disposition of resilient metal channels was varied. For floors incorporating resilient metal channels and sound absorbing material, the sound transmission class and impact insulation class could be predicted with sufficient accuracy by simple regression analysis using variables such as the mass of the layers, joist depth and spacing, insulation thickness and density and resilient metal channel spacing.
