The species of subgenus L iocosmius C asey of genus B embidion L atreille are delimited and documented using DNA sequences from eight genes, morphological data, and geography. The subgenus consists of six known species, three of which are described as new: B embidion orion C ooper and M addison ( C alifornia), B . darlingtonielum C ooper and M addison ( C alifornia), and B . cooperi M addison ( N ew M exico and A rizona). The group ranges from B ritish C olumbia south to B aja C alifornia, and east to C olorado and N ew M exico, with the centre of diversity in C alifornia. DNA from a pinned specimen collected in 1968 was sequenced using an Illumina platform, resulting in accurate data of all eight genes studied. Identification tools and descriptions of each species are provided. © 2014 The Linnean Society of London
