Focal points □ No United Kingdom study is available exploring non‐edemption of National Health Service prescription items at the point of dispensing in community pharmacies; this study presents data on 598 incidents of requests for non‐dispensing, recorded in 16 community pharmacies □ In just under half of cases the request was due to reasons unrelated to the cost of the prescription charge; these reasons suggest a mismatch between current and past medication on general practice computer records □ This study is the first to demonstrate that community pharmacy staff deal with the implications of poor GP computer records, an issue which would be expected to improve through the implementation of more formalised systems of medicines management in community pharmacies
