Diploptene and composite triterpenoids of the hopane series, 35‐(0‐β‐galacturonosyl)‐2β‐methylbacteriohopanetetrol and 35‐(0‐α‐glucuronosyl)‐2β‐methylbacteriohopanetetrol, a novel hopanoid, as well as their non‐methylated equivalents, were isolated from the temperature resistant cyanobacterium Synechococcus PCC 6907. This is the first report of rare bacteriohopanetetrol glycosides containing glycuronic acid moieties from a cyanobacterium.
