A commercial kit (SEFEX), designed to detect strains of Salmonella enteritidis , was used to demonstrate antigenic cross‐reactions between the fimbriae of S. enteritidis and an 18 kDa outer membrane protein expressed by enteroaggregative strains of E. coli O126: H27.
